Motorcyclists are being urged to make sure that they secure their vehicle properly even though their machine may not be attractive to thieves.
According to the leading stolen vehicle recovery firm, Tracker, bike thieves are now targeting a new, cheaper range of bikes, stating that it has witnessed "more low value models [catching] the eye of thieves."
This means that owners of machines that may not catch the eye of thieves could end up having to make a claim on their bike insurance if they fail to secure their vehicle properly.
The firm stated that it had recovered in excess of £300,000 worth of motorbikes last year.
With bike thieves now targeting different types of cycles, Bill Raynal, the managing director of Tracker, warned of the importance of ensuring the bike is secure if the owner want to avoid making an insurance claim.
He stated that by installing a tracking device onto the vehicle would increase the chances of recovering the vehicle in the event of it being stolen.
He said: "Models such as the Peugeot Ludix worth just £1,000, are hot favourites with thieves, alongside £10,000 models such as the BMW R11650.
All motorcycle owners need to take steps to protect their assets, as the current economic climate means many households aren't in the position to replace a stolen bike.
Having a tracking device installed offers owners that added level of security, increasing their chances of recovering their stolen bike."
