It has been revealed that a teenager with 163 convictions who stole a victim’s off-road motorcycle has been given a community order by Burnley magistrates.
The 19-year-old, had taken the bike from a secure shed, but was seen by police around 15 minutes later. The force followed him, but later lost him.
However, the teen tear-away was arrested a week later. He admitted burglary with no bike insurance.
As a result, he was given a community order with 80 hours unpaid work, the Thinking Skills programme and a 28 day 7am to 7pm curfew.
Trevor Grice, the defendant’s lawyer said that it was suggested to the defendant that he break into the shed. He noted: "The bike was sold on for £200. The defendant got a slice of the proceeds of the sale."
The bench chairman told the defendant he was letting himself down and could do better. He stated: "This is a bit of punishment and hopefully it will help you."
