Millions of Brits are risking having hundreds of pounds worth of goods stolen from their vehicles.
According to a new study conducted by Saga Motor Insurance, British motorists are carrying around over £3 billion worth of gadgets in their vehicles, most of which may not be covered under their car insurance policy.
With 42 per cent of drivers travelling with a mobile phone or handheld email device, and a further 32 per cent keeping a satellite navigation system during their journeys, motorists are carrying some £3.8 billion worth of good in their vehicles.
Additionally, 12 per cent take a DVD or an iPod in their vehicles while 8 per cent take laptops.
However, some eight million Brits with the typical £100 to £200 cover for personal possessions under their car insurance stated that they have gadgets worth over £200 in their vehicles at any one time.
And because "the trend for in-car technology has led to a significant increase in the total value of a vehicle's contents," Saga Group executive chairman Andrew Goodsell is urging drivers to check their car insurance cover.
Motorists have also been advised by the Home Office to ensure their belongings are not displayed in the vehicle for potential thieves.
