Van drivers have been warned not to get angry over tailgaters, if they wish to keep their cheap van insurance premiums.
The warning comes after a recent study which showed that the biggest annoyance amongst British drivers was having someone drive too close behind them.
Van driver’s who react aggressively to tailgaters by slamming their brakes in a bid to get the vehicle behind to back off, can be very dangerous, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
The organisation commented that motorists should instead try to move or allow the driver in question pass.
"Find the earliest opportunity to change lanes in safety and allow the tailgater to get past you and become somebody else's problem," a spokesperson for the group said.
Motorists have also been urged to avoid any confrontation when on the road, as this reduces the chance of a personal injury and keeps their insurance cost’s stable.
